Dupont Manual High School Reviews

Having graduated Manual in 2003, I was very pleased with the abundance of Advanced Program and Advanced Placement courses. I was also very pleased with the Visual Arts Magnet. I feel that it's one of the best visual arts programs for high schools in the country. The other magnets our excellent as well. Including YPAS and MST. In my year, our class was 3rd in the country in National Merit Semifinalists.

I honestly can't see myself going anywhere else. The people at Manual are phenomenal.

I am clearly displeased with Manual in the past year. The standard of students has decreased, simply caring only about grades, rather than intelligence. Any student can study. It takes another kind to actually have intellect. Manual once was the best. I am sad to say that no longer has this title been upheld. Just like Rome, it shall fall.

I am a recent graduate of manual and if you want your child to excel, manual is the best high school in Kentucky for them to do so. There are different core programs for specific areas of study that include the Math Science Technology Program (MST), Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS), High School University (HSU), and the Visual Arts (VA) programs. All of which include exccellent teachers and friendly staff. Did you know that more than 93% of all Manual graduates attend college? The numbers speak for itself. Great school, excellent programs... Go Manual!

Manual is simply the best high school in the state of Kentucky. I am currently a junior in the MST program, and I couldn't be happier. The level of education is extremely high, and the rest of school is fun and exciting. Whoever you are, you can find an extracurricular activity for you. I couldn't imagine anywhere else. -Robbie

Best school in KY. One of the best in the US.

Manual's student population is diverse and self-motivated, and they achieve academically at a very high level. Students challenge each other to reach higher. The quality of the academic programs is outstanding. Students have a wide variety of subjects from which to choose and a range of levels of intensity from standard through AP. Manual excels in science as well as in the arts and has a full-range of extracurricular activities as well ranging from those that are academically oriented (like Quick Recall) to political (Young Democrats/Republicans) to purely social (Knitting and Salsa). Manual has recently earned a National PTA Parent Involvement School of Excellence designation and has a very strong body of parent volunteers.

I graduated in 2003 and am now finishing up my Junior yr. at the University of Kentucky as a Landscape Architecture student. All I can say is that Manual prepared me in ways that are probably unheard of else where around the state. I am in the top of my class and I am not the only one. I have stayed in touch with friends from Manual who go to Princeton, M.I.T. Stanford, Virginia, Auburn, and many other very lofty higher education universities. Basically what I am getting at is that Manual is an amazing school with an amazaing atmosphere, it would be a mistake to not take the chance to try and attend. (I was in the Visual Arts magnet) -Lrj

No school is perfect, but this one nearly is. Magnet programs very selective by student talent/acheivement. They all choose to be here. One plus for me is that it is OK to be smart, be involved, and be a leader. Excellence and commitment are the norm. 3 of my children attended in MST, HSU and YPAS programs. Though a few experiences could have been better, overall this is an excellent academic environment with a lot of courses to choose from and a diverse student body. It is common for students to take at least 3 or 4 Advanced Placement courses before they graduate, some take many more. College admissions staff recognize the rigorous program here and respect the student's achievements. We do not rank; the last year they ranked, my son was in a class of about 450 with 44 valedictorians; GPA 3.9,had 36 hours AP credit, and class rank 86!

This school was a wonderful way for my child to express themselves with the different magnets and class variety. But they still took all core content classes and recieved great academic achievement.

I'm going in to my senior year at Manual and the past three years have been some of the best of my life! I couldn't imagine going anywhere else there are so many extra curricular activities you can't even count them, not to mention the teachers are all excell in their fields. Plus this school has the most amazing diversity, i feel that my views of people have been changed for all time.

If I could describe Manual in one word it would be: Unprecedented quality of teachers matched with strong desire and determination for learning demonstrated by students equaling the best school in Kentucky. If you want to be challenged and have fun at the same time, then Manual is the school for you. Wait that's more than one word-- well at least you get the picture.

I am a student at duPont Manual, and never in my school career, have I held a high level of pride for my school. Manual is an amazing place with a unique atmosphere full of diversity. They push you to do your best while maintaining the 'fun' aspect that should be present in every high school. There's no where else I would rather be.

I go to Manual high school. And overall it really is a good school. Of course nobodt wants to go to school but this really is a great school. They have many different magnets to choose from and they only let the best im so are you good enough? Find out and apply here at Manual!MEDM

I am a freshman student at Dupont Manual High School. Manual excels in every aspect of education. They offer several academic programs including the HSU (High School University) magnet of which I am enrolled. This program allows students to take college level courses that provide credit hours all while still in high school! Manual has the highest state testing scores of any high school, public or private. Manual has educated many successful students since its opening in the late 1800's. Two of its alumni who are now in the public spotlight are Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Senator and Senate Majority Whip, and Paige Davis, host of Trading Spaces. Manual has too many positive aspects to mention in this short commentary, you can get more information at www.dupontmanual.com Are you Manual material? Be sure to apply early and see what true excellence is!

duPont Manual has tremendous pluses -- culturally and psychographically diverse, little tolerance for nonsense, great college recruitment credibility and the students' nose for excellence and accountability is very respectable. If you have a child who is intent on learning, it's the place to go. If you have one who needs nurturing, go somewhere else. And, oh, be forewarned: to some, it's a real shock to see the intellectual density at Manual. Being a whiz kid at one middle school does not automatically make them a whiz at Manual. All awards and egos should be left at the doorstep. In my opinion, the only serious downside is the imbalance in the teachers' commitment levels. There are some who are devoted to their craft vis a vis those who are just riding out their tenure. If credibility, well-roundedness and growth potential are factors for you, Manual is the school for you.

duPont Manual High School offers unique programs that are incomparable to that of any other school Jefferson County, including a number of majors at the Youth Performing Arts School, Visual Arts, MST (Math, Science, Technology), Communications, and High School University. With a block scheduling program, students are also well prepared for college schedules.

I think this is a good school but I think the teachers get too much of the credit. If the kids weren't as determined as they are to succeed, they wouldn't be learning anymore at this school than at any other school.

When my son was paying attention, he received a wonderful education at Manual. The diversity of teachers and students was a plus, class sizes were small, the quality of the program was just excellent.

Really is a School of Excellence!! The teachers are amazing and the school's performance is off the charts!

Hard to imagine anything better -- or more challenging. My son is getting a better education in high school than I got in college -- and this is a public school!
